As an experienced entrepreneurial leader, a passionate advocate for small business, consultant, and a business owner himself; Tom intimately understands the incredible significance of entrepreneurship to our economy and culture. He has broad-based experience in both the business and academic sectors with unique expertise in building consensus across multiple stakeholders in the university, community, business and public sectors. Results are driven by strong P&L management and by building teams focused on finding innovative solutions that result in “win-win” outcomes for a broad group of constituents that frequently have diverse and competing needs.

His professional journey began in the over two decades that he spent in his family business where he built a foundation of understanding the unique dynamics of family enterprises and family systems. He was responsible for profitable growth of three divisions of a business that became one of the largest commercial landscape design-build and commercial landscape maintenance operations in Western New York. During that time, he also founded U.T.F. Inc. dba Mow More Supplies, a national e-Commerce company, where he remains active today as a strategy consultant.

Inspired by a sense of lifelong learning, Tom continued his education when he graduated with distinction with an MBA from State University of New York at Buffalo – School of Management. Tom has spent extensive time understanding the unique dynamics of family business, and has also gone on to become a certified Gazelles International Scaling Up coach. In addition to receiving the Basadur Professional Innovation Advisor designation, he is also a certified trainer for the Basadur Creative Problem Solving Profile, and a Satmetrix Net Promoter (NPS) certified associate.

Tom has consulted with over 350 businesses helping them to implement “next and best practices” in their organizations with special emphasis in the areas of strategy, customer loyalty and innovation through creative problem solving.

Currently, he serves as an Assistant Dean at the University at Buffalo School of Management, Executive Director of the Blackstone LaunchPad at UB, and is also Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) where he works with a dedicated team that is equally passionate about advancing the Center’s mission of supporting entrepreneurs and their dreams.

Under Tom’s direction, the Center has expanded its sophisticated interdisciplinary approach to educating emerging business leaders through experiential learning and mentoring.  In recent years, the CEL team has twice been recognized as one of the Top 100 Small Business Influencers in North America.
