Michael G. Goldsby, PhD is the Stoops Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship Center in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University. He teaches creativity, innovation, and design in the University’s nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs in entrepreneurship. He is also featured in The Great Courses lecture series. His video course, The Entrepreneur’s Toolkit, was internationally released in 2014 by the Teaching Company. Goldsby has produced 30 refereed journal articles. He is also the co-author of Innovation Acceleration (Prentice Hall). His research has been reported in many international media outlets, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and the Associated Press. His study on entrepreneurship and fitness was covered by Runner’s World, Prevention Magazine, Muscle and Fitness, and Health Magazine, among others. His article in the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship was selected the winner of the Paul Hershey Award for best paper in the journal. He was also awarded the Journal of Small Business Management’s Editors Choice Award for the Best Paper at the 2014 United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship Conference. In his recent years, his university program has won the following awards:

Goldsby attained his undergraduate degree in business economics and public policy from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, his master's degree in economics from Indiana State University, and his doctorate in strategic management and business ethics from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. While at Virginia Tech, he was awarded the Jack Hoover Award for Teaching Excellence. He is a member of many management professional organizations, and has served as vice president and a member of the Board of Directors for the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), of which he has received a distinguished service award. He also serves on the advisory board of the Indiana Small Business Development Center.
Goldsby’s current research interests focus on opportunity recognition and development, design, innovation, and applied creativity. He specializes in offering guidance during times of creation, change, and growth. As such, he is a frequent speaker to companies, communities, and universities, and offers consulting and workshop services. In his spare time, Goldsby enjoys athletic pursuits, such as running, triathlon, weightlifting, rock climbing, golfing, skiing, and cycling. He has completed 25 marathons, including eight Boston Marathons, and is also an Ironman triathlete.
